Golden Globe Awards Winners: ‘West Side Story’ & ‘Succession’ Dominate Untelevised Show
The 79th Golden Globe Awards ceremony took place Sunday night, but with much less fanfare due to the event being untelevised, and criticism that has dogged the show’s governing body, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, for the past years.
NBC announced it would not air the Globes last year following the controversy, and the HFPA has been working to address its diversity and ethics issues according to several statements.
It seems like it was a good year for HBO, with Succession picking up two wins for performances and Best Drama Series, while their comedy Hacks won Best Actress for star Jean Smart and the Best Musical or Comedy Series award.
The biggest winners in the Film section were Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story adaptation and The Power of the Dog which secured Jane Campion the Directing Award.
