Melissa McCarthy apparently wasn’t asked to be a part of the revival of Gilmore Girls coming to Netflix.
McCarthy, who’s in high demand in Hollywood these days, was always going to be a long-shot when it came to the Gilmore Girls reboot. However, the Spy star claims that no one had ever even asked her to appear in it.
“Thanks for the invite, but sadly no one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow,” McCarthy tweeted. “Wish them all the best!!”
Gilmore Girls creator and producer Amy Sherman-Palladino had said earlier this week that she had reached out to McCarthy’s team, and implied that there was a slim chance that McCarthy might appear as Sookie in a cameo in one of the episodes.
“She’s really f–king busy,” Sherman-Palladino told TVLine. “But the thing I have said [to her team] is, ‘Look, if Melissa is available and has an afternoon free, I’ll write her a scene.”
“Melissa was one of us. If she has a spare moment to run over — even if for just a cameo — we would be totally game. And if it’s a last-minute thing, I would write her in and we would figure it out. That’s the way we left it.”
Netflix plans for the Gilmore Girls reboot season to feature four 90-minute episodes that will each take place in a season of the year. Filming was slated to commence this week. A premiere date has yet to be set.
