Gia Allemand's Mom Donna Micheletti Opens Up About Daughter’s Suicide To Dr. Phil
Donna Micheletti spoke with Dr. Phil McGraw in a forthcoming episode of his daily talk show about her daughter Gia Allemand’s suicide last month.
Micheletti revealed to McGraw that at the time of Allemand’s suicide, she was on the phone with her. "Because I’m the closest person in the world to her and she didn’t want to be alone when she left this world,” she told the Oprah Winfrey favorite. “So she wanted Mommy to be there, I guess … It destroys me, but if it made her feel better… Then that’s just fine… I don’t mind dealing with this."
The mom of the former Bachelor star believes that had Allemand taken a moment to reflect, she wouldn’t have felt driven to kill herself. "I'm really mad at her that she did this for no reason," Micheletti told McGraw. "In 12 hours, it would have been fine. I'm really angry."
McGraw advised the 29-year-old late model’s surviving mother not to dwell on those last moments she spent with Allemand on the phone before she hung herself, but on all of the more beautiful moments they spent together preceding it. "Celebrate all of the days of her life," he told Micheletti. "And don't focus on just that one moment of her death."
Allemand was pronounced dead on Aug. 21 at University Hospital in New Orleans, two days after her suicide attempt. Prior to the attempt on her life, she had reportedly gotten into an argument with her boyfriend, NBA player Ryan Anderson.
Micheletti will appear on the Sept. 10 season premiere episode of Dr. Phil.
