George Zimmerman
George Zimmerman, the Florida man who was acquitted of the murder of unarmed teen Trayvon Martin in 2013, was arrested Friday on suspicion of aggravated assault.
Zimmerman was booked at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility Friday at around 9:45 p.m, sheriff’s spokeswoman Kim Cannaday told the Orlando Sentinel. He’s facing aggravated assault and domestic violence with a weapon charges.
Further details on the events leading up to the arrest, including the identity of the alleged victim, have not yet been made known.
On Saturday morning, Zimmerman’s bond was set at $5,000. The Seminole County judge also prohibited him from traveling into Volusia County and ordered that he hand over all firearms in his possession by Tuesday, Jan. 13.
Zimmerman is expected to return to court Feb. 17.
Since his acquittal in the shooting death of 17-year-old Martin in Feb. 2013, Zimmerman has had multiple run-ins with the law. In Sept. 2013, there was an alleged domestic violence incident with his estranged wife Shellie Zimmerman. Two months later, Zimmerman was charged with domestic violence, aggravated assault, battery and criminal mischief following a confrontation with his girlfriend Samantha Schiebe.
