George Clooney gifted 14 of his friends $1 million each at a dinner party in 2013.

GEORGE CLOONEY GIFTED $1 MILLION TO 14 FRIENDS IN 2013

According to the star’s best friend Rande Gerber, Clooney invited 13 of his friends, which he called ‘The Boys,’ over for dinner. When they arrived, Gerber told MSNBC’s Headliners, they each found a black suitcase sitting in their dinner chairs, each with $1 million inside. Turns out the actor wanted to show his gratitude for all his friends’ help in the early days of his acting career.

“George begins to say, ‘Listen, I want you guys to know how much you’ve meant to me and how much you mean to me in my life. I came to L.A., I slept on your couch. I’m so fortunate in my life to have all of you and I couldn’t be where I am today without all of you,'” Gerber recalled. “‘So, it was really important to me that while we’re still all here together, that I give back. So I want you all to open your suitcases.'”

Not only was there a million in cash in the suitcases, but they were each filled with $20 bills. “‘You don’t have to worry about your kids, you don’t have to worry about school, you don’t have to worry about paying your mortgage,'” Gerber continued with what Clooney said. “One was working at a bar in Texas at the airport, trying just to support his family, rides a bicycle to work every day. I mean these are guys that took care of George and now he’s giving it all back. And George said, ‘Not only that, I have paid everyone’s taxes so this million dollars is yours.'”

Gerber is a successful business man and husband of Cindy Crawford. He co-owns Casamigos Tequila with Clooney. At the time, Gerber says he refused to accept the gift, but shared that Clooney said if he didn’t, then he wouldn’t give the money to any of The Boys. Gerber accepted the money, but says he donated the hefty gift to charity.

Gerber shared the story as a testament to Clooney’s character. “This is who George is,” he said. “That was Sept. 27, 2013. Now Sept. 27, 2014, he marries Amal [Clooney]. Now that’s good karma right there.”
