Tyler Christopher, who was best known for his roles in General Hospital, died yesterday in his San Diego apartment. He was 50.

Christopher’s cause of death was a “cardiac event,” as reported by Maurice Benard, Christopher’s former General Hospital co-star.

“Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing his joy to his loyal fans through his acting,” Benard wrote. “Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him.”

Benard added that Christopher was an “advocate for better mental health and substance abuse treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol.”

“We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father,” Benard concluded the post.

The youngest of four children, Christopher was born Tyler Christopher Baker and grew up in Delaware, Ohio. Though he is most known for his role as Nikolas Cassadine on General Hospital, he was also a series regular in Days of Our Lives and a recurring character in The Lying Game.

From 2002 to 2004, he was married to Eva Longoria. Four years after his divorce from Longoria, he married auto racing reporter Brienne Pedigo, with whom he has two children. They were married for 13 years before their divorce in 2021.

Christopher is survived by his son Greysun James, 14, and daughter Boheme, 8.

Christopher recently claimed that his sister had taken advantage of him financially while he was in the hospital.
