Gary Oldman said he is planning to retire from acting.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, the actor, 64, said he doesn’t plan to be active by the time he’s 80.
“I’ve had an enviable career, but careers wane, and I do have other things that interest me outside of the acting,” he said. “When you’re young you think you’re going to get round to doing all of them – read that book – then the years go by.”
Oldman has seen an extremely successful career for over three decades, renowned for his roles in Sid and Nancy, The Dark Knight, the Harry Potter series and True Romance. He won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for his role as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.
He said he plans to finish filming the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses. The contract has him playing Jackson Lamb for two more seasons of the show. His character is a drunk but experienced intelligence agent.
“I’d be very happy and honored and privileged to go out as Jackson Lamb, and then hang it up,” he said.
Oldman is also set to play President Truman in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, a story about the creation of the atomic bomb.
