Garth Brooks Announces New Album And World Tour Comeback [VIDEO]

Garth Brooks, the country singer powerhouse, is coming back to the spotlight since going into a short retirement in 2001, and announced his plans for a new album and a world tour.

Garth Brooks Comes Out Of Retirement

Brooks, who arguably dominated country music in the '90s, decided to step away from the stage in 2001, saying he wanted to focus on being a full-time dad to his three daughters. Now, at 52, Brooks will return to the country music scene with what he calls “Garth Music.”

More than a little shy after nearly 15 years away from the spotlight, Garth admitted he was nervous about returning to his career as a performer.

“Scared? Yeah. Old? Yes,” he told reporters at his press conference on Thursday.

At the conference, Brooks said that, while he admires contemporary country artists, he wouldn’t be singing any “bro country” or “hick hop” on his world tour.

“Our job is to go out there and fly the flag for country music… I’ve seen the world tour stage. It’s phenomenal,” Brooks said, hinting at a spectacle show.

Garth Brooks Three-Year World Tour

Brooks will be announcing the opening city for his world tour on July 14 via a fan, handpicked by the musician. Tickets will be available solely through garthbrooks.com, but Brooks stated that he is working with Ticketmaster to sell tickets as well. The tour will span three-years, though no other details have been revealed.

“I want to thank God and everyone who is giving me a chance to actually look at a second half of a career. I don’t know many artists who get this chance,” Brooks said.

New Double Album

As for Brooks’ comeback album – his first in 13 years – it will be a new double album, and will only be available on disk or digitally via his official website. Brooks, who doesn’t believe in iTunes or other streaming sites that allow users to listen to or purchase one song at a time, has long held out on sharing his musical catalogue with the digital age.

While he didn’t say much about any new songs he has been working on, Brooks assured fans that they can expect some of his classic country flair, saying, “You’re damn straight we’ll do cowboys songs on this album.”

Brooks also teased that a few upcoming tracks could eclipse his biggest hits, including “The Dance.”
