'Game Of Thrones' Announces Longer Episodes

Fans of the HBO series Game of Thrones will be happy to know there will be more content to air on the premium network, as producers are preparing a super-sized third season. Ten episodes are scheduled to premiere, the normal order for the series, but episodes will be longer.

There’s almost another full episode’s worth of extra minutes spread across the season,” showrunner Dan Weiss told Entertainment Weekly. “One of the great liberties with HBO is we’re not forced to come in at a specific time. We can’t be under 50 minutes or over 60, but that gives us a lot of flexibility.” Weiss expects each episode to last around 56 or 57 minutes, as opposed to the normal 52. “So for people clamoring for another episode, it’s in there,” Weiss says. “It’s just been cut into tiny pieces.”

Game of Thrones first broke onto the scene in 2011. It gained more attention when the diminutive Peter Dinklage, 43, won the Best Supporting Actor Emmy that same year for his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister.

Season three is scheduled to return March 31, 2013. Fans looking to catch up can do so by purchasing the second season DVD, beginning on Feb. 19.
