Two window washers at One World Trade Center, otherwise known as the Freedom Tower, were rescued on Wednesday after getting trapped on scaffolding.
At roughly 12:45 p.m. two window washers became stuck outside the 69th floor of One World Trade, reported CBS New York. By 1 p.m., the New York Fire Department had responded to a call detailing the frightening predicament in which the two men found themselves.
“They are in a difficult spot. They are feeling the effects of hanging in there,” a spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal before the men were ushered to safety. In order to rescue them, firefighters had to cut the glass window near the scaffolding and pull them into the building.
The terrifying ordeal for the window washers was reportedly caused when a cable snapped and forced one of the scaffolding motors to malfunction.
