Robert J. O’Neill, a former Navy SEAL who said he killed Osama bin Laden, was arrested last week in Frisco, Texas.

He was taken to jail last Wednesday and released on a $3,500 bond. Frisco police said O’Neill was charged with misdemeanors for assault and public intoxication.

According to social media posts, O’Neill was in Frisco to record a podcast.

He first said in 2014 that he fired the shots that killed bin Laden in 2011. The U.S. government has not commented on O’Neill’s statement.

He also wrote a memoir, entitled The Operator, about his experience in the military.

O’Neill previously attracted media attention in 2020 when Delta banned him for removing his face mask on a flight when the airline was requiring all passengers to wear one due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
