In a Manhattan courtroom, a Florida woman was sentenced to one month in prison and three years of probation for her involvement in the illicit sale of President Joe Biden’s daughter’s diary to Project Veritas, a right-wing advocacy group, in 2020.
Aimee Harris, 41, was sentenced on Tuesday after she pled guilty to the theft of Ashley Biden’s personal belongings. Harris had moved into a residence in Delray Beach, Florida, where Ashley had previously lived and temporarily stored some of her possessions.
In collaboration with Robert Kurlander, Harris planned to sell the possessions to the highest bidder. They hatched a plan to arrange a sale at a Donald Trump fundraiser they both attended on September 6, 2020, to offer the items to the then-president’s campaign.
Shortly after the fundraiser, Harris and Kurlander shared photographs of some of Biden’s belongings with Project Veritas. Court documents reveal that the organization facilitated transportation from Florida to New York City, covering expenses such as airfare, hotel accommodations and a car service.
After their meeting in New York, Harris retrieved additional belongings from the house at the request of Project Veritas. A representative from the organization then traveled to Florida to collect the items, which were subsequently shipped back to New York.
In August 2022, Harris’s attorney, Sanford Talkin, said that his client had accepted responsibility for her actions and was eager to move forward with her life.
Harris apologized to the president’s daughter in court, saying she regrets publicizing aspects of her personal life.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Sobelman said that in addition to the diary, Harris stole a digital storage card, books, clothing, luggage and “everything she could get her hands on” hoping to ” make as much money as she could.”
“She wanted to damage Ms. Biden’s father,” he said.
Judge Laura Taylor Swain deemed Harris’ actions “despicable and serious,” as she exploited the president’s daughter for profit and to impact the presidential election.
