Fitness model Denis Austin shows off her abs (Image: Instagram)
Denise Austin posted a photo of herself in a blue bikini top and black shorts to social media.
The fitness instructor, 66, is still working, promoting her website’s week-long ab challenge to achieve a “flatter stomach” in time for the spring and summer months.
She included Pilates, avoiding sugars and flexing one’s abs for 30 seconds every hour as part of the exercise.
Another tip was to simply stand up taller. Austin said women can look five pounds lighter and make their abs look flatter by imagining a string above their heads pulling them up. They then are instructed to tuck in their abs and pull their belly buttons to the back of their spines.
Austin also suggested eating water-heavy foods such as cucumbers, celery and melons as well as potassium-rich foods like potatoes.
Last summer, Austin walked the runway at the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Runway Show in Miami with her daughter Katie Austin, 29. She remarked that she was excited and shocked at being asked to model.
She said that she wanted her appearance to inspire women and prove that people are never too old to get in shape.
Austin rose to prominence with her exercise videotapes in the late 80s and 90s. She promoted the Reebok Freestyle sneaker, the first athletic shoe for women. It became an instant hit in the gym in the 80s. In 2002, President George W. Bush made her a member of the President’s Council of Physical Fitness and Sports.
