First Lady Melania Trump To Make First Foreign Trip To Canada For Invictus Games

While her husband, his children, and his administration have chosen to be brash and loud during the first six months of his presidency, First Lady Melania Trump, for the most part, has chosen to stay out of the spotlight.

For the first time, the former model has made plans to travel outside of the country by herself in her capacity as the First Lady. Trump will head to the Invictus Games, which are being held in Toronto, Canada this year, in late September, it was announced on Thursday.

“I was heartened by the great success of the inaugural Invictus Games that took place in London in 2014, and the second games in Orlando, Florida last year,” Trump said in a White House press release. “In just two short years, the Invictus Games have allowed thousands of injured and wounded servicemen and women from many different countries to participate in adaptive sports competitions – something that should be lauded and supported worldwide.”

“I am honored by the opportunity to represent our country at this year’s games.”

The First Lady, who is a Twitter novice when compared with her husband, took to the social media platform to expand upon her excitement.

“Honored to lead US delegation to this year’s Invictus Games in Toronto,” she wrote.

The Invictus Games were founded by Prince Harry back in 2014 and aim to offer a sports competition for those who became disabled during their time serving their country.

This year, 90 servicemen and women from the United States are expected to compete, according to the White House.

This year’s games will run from September 23 to September 30.

In all, there will be 12 sports played: archery, Paralympic track and field, indoor rowing, powerlifting, road cycling, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair rugby, golf, and a driving competition.

Trump has traveled out of the country previously as the First Lady but with her husband, as the pair made stops in Saudi Arabia, Italy, Belgium and Israel.

It was also announced Thursday that Second Lady Karen Pence will travel out of the country later this week. She will meet with art therapists in Estonia, Georgia and Montenegro.
