HOLLYWOOD, CA - FEBRUARY 26: 'La La Land' producer Jordan Horowitz (C) stops the show to announce the actual Best Picture winner as 'Moonlight' following a presentation error with actor Warren Beatty (L) and host Jimmy Kimmel (R) onstage during the 89th Annual Academy Awards at Hollywood & Highland Center on February 26, 2017 in Hollywood, California. Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty are reportedly being called upon to present the Oscar for Best Picture at the 90th Academy Awards for the second consecutive year.
Their first attempt at the job did not go as planned at 2017’s awards ceremony. The pair famously flubbed last year when they erroneously announced that La La Land had won for Best Picture, when in reality, Moonlight had won. Dunaway had been handed the wrong envelope as she walked on stage, and when she stalled, Beatty grabbed the paper and read aloud.
According to TMZ, the Bonnie and Clyde stars will again take on the role. Representatives for ABC are declining to answer any questions about the upcoming award show, which airs Sunday night at 8 p.m. TMZ reports that the actors did a run through of their lines twice this week to rehearse their Best Picture announcement. A source shared that the pair, of course, are planning to joke about last year’s flub, but hope to get this one right.
PricewaterhouseCoopers, the accounting firm responsible for tallying the votes and handing out the winning envelopes, was blamed for the mixup in 2017. A staffer, Brian Cullinan, apparently had been using his phone to take photos of the celebrities when he handed off the incorrect envelope. The firm will continue as the Oscar’s accounting firm, but has put a policy in place to ban phones from their staff.
