Fall Out Boy Back From Hiatus

Fall Out Boy will be touring and releasing their fifth studio album, Save Rock and Roll, after a four year break.

Fall Out Boy released their first single since 2009, “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light ‘Em Up),” on iTunes on Monday – the first off their upcoming album Save Rock and Roll, which will be out on May 7. They kicked off a low-key tour on Monday at Chicago’s Subterranean, continuing tonight at New York’s Webster Hall and the Roxy in Los Angeles on Thursday. Then, the group will head out of the states, playing in intimate settings in London, Paris, Berlin, Sydney and Melbourne, according to MTV.

Pete Wentz, Patrick Stump, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley have spent the last four years working on side projects. In the time that’s passed, Stump released an R&B solo album, Wentz worked with electropop group the Black Cards and Trohman and Hurley were playing with supergroup The Damned Things. No doubt, all of these outside musical endeavors fueled the fear in Fall Out Boy’s fans that the group had indeed broken up.

"It's weird because, if you look it up in the dictionary, 'hiatus' is a synonym for 'a break.' We're on a break that doesn't have a definite ending. There's no ending date," Wentz clarified. "We've been doing this for eight years straight, where it was pre-recording, record, promo, tour, tour, pre-recording, record, tour, tour, and our band was going to imminently implode … I don't think I would use the word 'hiatus' because I think that word has gotten a dirty name, especially if you say 'indefinite hiatus,' … I wouldn't use the word 'breakup' because that's not true. It's a break — we're decompressing. I'm making a new term for it: we're decompressing right now."

The “decompressing” is over and not only will Fall Out Boy be releasing the new album and putting on a few shows to build excitement, they’ll be going on an all-out album tour starting May 14.
