EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Sarah Drew On Her ‘Beautiful’ Career Evolution Since Leaving Hit Series ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
Actress Sarah Drew explained her period of career growth since leaving the huge hit Grey’s Anatomy.
Best known for her role as Dr. April Kepner in the hit ABC series Grey’s from 2009 to 2018, Drew left at the end of season 14 and went onward to investigate other roles behind the camera. Drew has experimented with a wide range of positions in the entertainment industry since she moved on.
Drew explained her evolution from Grey’s over the last six years: “What’s been so amazing about it is that I’ve stepped into leadership roles in ways that have been really, really exciting. Like I got to shadow as a director on Grey’s Anatomy, I produced my first movie the summer before my final year on Grey’s, and ever since Grey’s, I’ve started writing.”
She continued, “I’ve written and produced three films now, I’m coming up on six or seven producing credits at this point, I directed a web series and a radio play, and I’ve been doing a ton of shadowing.”
“It’s such a beautiful space to be in,” she continued. “To be creating to be creating my own material and to feel like I have the steering wheel. And I’m getting to be at the steering wheel in the most incredible ways, and it’s been the joy of my career.”
Drew recently said she would be open to reprising her April Kepner role on Grey’s. “I always say that that door is always open. That place is like family to me, and I love going back and visiting, so, you know, ball’s in their court,” she told People. She has made guest appearances throughout the years.
Drew recently starred in the new Hallmark+ series Mistletoe Murders.
