Former Green Bay Packers linebacker Brady Poppinga is mourning the loss of his 17-year-old son, and thanking his followers for their support on social media.

Poppinga’s son, Julius, died on Wednesday after suffering a severe asthma attack that left him with a collapsed lung. News of Julius’ passing was confirmed in a social media post by his sister, Jasmine.

“I would like to thank EVERYONE for their unbelievably beautiful, sweet and loving compassion sent our way,” wrote Poppinga on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “Julius is a special soul who has touched so many lives. He is missed, but we KNOW that through the Savior, we will see him and be with him again.”

Former teammates have rallied around Poppinga and his family during this difficult time.

“Love you @BradyPoppinga. Sending love to you and your family,” wrote Will Blackmon on X.
