In the second part of the docuseries Phoenix Rising, the actress Evan Rachel Wood revealed more horrifying allegations of acts of rape, sexual torture and antisemitism by her ex-boyfriend Marilyn Manson. The two dated from 2007 to 2010, and Wood has been discussing her alleged history with the singer, real name Brian Warner, publicly after first revealing she was a rape victim in 2016.
The doc, which was directed by Amy Berg, is mostly driven by Wood’s stories, including interviews and readings of her old journals. They also profiled claims from ex-girlfriends and one former assistant of Warner’s. His ex-assistant said he heard Warner threatening his current wife Lindsey Usich, and one ex-girlfriend identified as Ashley S said Warner broke her nose during a rape.
When she first named Warner as her abuser in 2021, Wood said that the “started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years.” She has newly revealed more instances of sexual torture Warner allegedly carried out on her, including scarring and branding her, whipping the Jewish actress with what she described as a “Nazi whip,” and electrocuting her genitals.
In a chilling scene where she revealed remaining wounds from her relationship, Wood said, “He carved an ‘E,’ and I carved an ‘M’ as a way to show ownership and loyalty, and I carved it right next to my vagina to show him that I belong to him. So it’s January 2007. I really want to get that scar removed.” Along with the scarring, Warner also carried out sexual torture against Wood, which she said included getting whipped while tied to a Jewish prayer kneeler.
Wood claimed that the whip used was a “Nazi whip from the Holocaust.” Wood said that he once whipped her so hard she “broke the kneeler in half,” and “I remember in that moment thinking ‘Just tell him whatever he wants to hear’ … I said, ‘I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry.’ I was begging for forgiveness, and he was cradling me and saying, ‘You understand now.’ And then he cut open his hand … and made me drink his blood.”
She said that Warner would frequently rape her in her sleep. “So I would just lie limp and still until it was over, and then I swear to god, he would just fling my leg and walk out of the room,” Wood said. These acts of abuse led to the actress suffering from PTSD, and she said she even attempted suicide in the doc.
Warner has attempted to counter the claims in the documentary by suing Wood and her collaborator Ilma Gore for defamation. claiming the pair have pressured accusers into speaking out and falsified evidence against him. Wood said in a statement on The View that Warner’s lawsuit is an example of “the retaliation that keeps survivors quiet.”
