Ethan Couch, the infamous “affluenza” teen, was missing when his probation officer attempted to check in on him. There is now a warrant out for Couch’s arrest.
Couch’s attorneys have confirmed that both their client and his mother have not been located.
“The juvenile probation officer has been unable to make contact with Ethan or his mother with whom he has been residing,” attorneys Scott Brown and William Reagan Wynn told CNN.
If Couch is found in violation of his probation, he could face up to 10 years behind bars.
Back in June 2013, Couch plowed into four people on the side of the road near Fort Worth, Tex., killing all of them. Additionally, passengers in the backseat of Couch’s vehicle were severely injured, with one suffering debilitating brain injuries. Couch’s BAC was .24 on the night of the accident.
During the criminal trial that followed, the defense team made headlines by calling a psychologist to the stand who blamed the then 16-year-old’s life of privilege or “affluenza” for his reckless behavior. The outrage aimed at Couch’s case only increased when he was sentenced to 10 years probation instead of the 20 years behind bars recommended by the prosecution.
Earlier this month, the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office was investigating a video that may have shown Couch drinking and playing beer pong. It’s unknown if it’s been determined that Couch was drinking – which would be in violation of his patrol – or what consequences he might be facing.
