Eric Trump is being roasted by LGBT+ users of Twitter after “coming out” on an interview Tuesday. He has since stated that it was an accident, and that he was paraphrasing an LGBT+ friend, but that hasn’t stopped Twitter.
Most Twitter users immediately understood that Trump’s statement was a mistake, and jokes about rejecting him began quickly.
Others mistakenly believed Trump’s statement was sincere, especially because of the way it was quoted in the media.
Some people praised Trump for having the bravery to “come out,” others declared that it didn’t change their negative opinions about him.
The vast minority of the posters were people who actually tried to clear up the misunderstanding, as most people on Twitter seemed to appreciate the touch of humor it brought to the political scene.
Trump himself eventually confirmed through The Post that, no, he is not gay, or even bi.
“To clarify, many of our close friends are part of the LGBT community, which was the intent of my statement,” Trump said. “As to me personally, as I think you know, I am a happily married man to my wife, Lara.”
Nonetheless, Twitter is continuing to enjoy Trump’s misspeak, and the jokes about it don’t look like they’re slowing down just yet.
