Emmy Nominations 2013: 'American Horror Story,' 'Game Of Thrones' Lead Nominations

Emmy nominations were announced on Thursday morning by Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul and Neil Patrick Harris, the show host and How I Met Your Mother actor.

Leading the nominations is American Horror Story with 17, including one for Outstanding Miniseries or Movie and acting nods for Jessica Lange and Zachary Quinto. Game of Thrones, at a close second with 16, was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series and has Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke up for acting awards

In addition to Game of Thrones, Outstanding Drama Series nods went mostly to the usual suspects – Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Homeland and Downton Abbey. Also nominated was Netflix original series House of Cards, which is a first for an online series. House of Cards stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright were nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, respectively.

Claire Danes and Damian Lewis were both nominated in the top actor categories for their work on Homeland. Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss and John Hamm were also nominated in the categories, as were Michelle Dockery and Hugh Bonneville for Downton Abbey.

Big Bang Theory, Girls, Louie, Modern Family, Veep and 30 Rock were all nominated in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. Lena Dunham, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were among the actresses who received a nod for lead actress in a comedy series. Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy nominations went to Alec Baldwin, Jim Parson and Don Cheadle among others.

Mark Burnett and Roma Downey’s The Bible is up for Outstanding Miniseries or Movie. Liberace’s Matt Damon and Michael Douglas were both nominated for lead actor in a miniseries or movie. Elisabeth Moss picked up her second individual nomination for her leading role in miniseries Top of the Lake.

The 65th Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' Emmy ceremony will air on CBS Sept. 22 at 8/7c. See below for a full list of the nominations.
