Who Is Emma Portner, Ellen Page’s New Wife?

Ellen Page and her longtime girlfriend Emma Portner married over the holiday weekend.

WHO IS EMMA PORTNER?

Portner is a contemporary jazz dance instructor at New York’s Broadway Dance Centre and has choreographed pieces for Justin Bieber. The pair broke the news of their nuptials at the same time on social media. “I get to call this incredible woman MY WIFE! @ellenpage I LOVE YOU!”

For her part, Page wrote, “Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife.” The couple has been posting photos of themselves together since the spring, and finally added rings.

Before getting her start as a choreographer and dance instructor, Portner got noticed when her collaborative dance video, “Dancing in the Dark,” went viral. As of this writing, the 2012 video has garnered nearly 750,000 views.

Earlier this week, Page joined a group of more than 300 prominent figures in the entertainment industry for the Time’s Up initiative, which aims to end sexual harassment in Hollywood and in all industry workplaces. Page had also recently accused director Brett Ratner of sexually harassing her when she was just 18-years-old. She recounted other harassment accounts from when she was 16 with others in the industry as well.

The Juno actress came out as a lesbian in 2014. She alleged that Ratner told a nearby woman on set, “You should f–k [Page] to make her realize she’s gay.”

Fans of the actress and members of the LGBTQ community lauded Page and her new wife. “Ellen Page getting married to Emma Portner literally fills my heart with such joy im so happy for them I wasn’t prepared for feeling so much abt this.,” wrote one Twitter user. “Its [sic] only the third day of 2018 and Ellen Page has saved the entire LGBT community by announcing that she married her girlfriend!!! tears are streaming down my face!!! if this ain’t the biggest sign that 2018 is a LESBIAN i dont know what is,” said another.

The term 20gayteen in place of 2018 was already trending, and Page and Portner’s marriage is just fueling that fire.
