'Elysium' World Premiere: Matt Damon, Jodie Foster Arrive In Style [Slideshow]
Elysium made it’s world premiere in Westwood, Calif., at the Regency Village Theatre on Wednesday evening.
Walking the red carpet was the film’s leading man, Matt Damon, alongside his wife Luciana. Damon’s costars, Jodie Foster, Diego Luna and Alice Braga all attended the event as well. Hunger Games star Leven Rambin also made an appearance at the California premiere.
In the sci-fi flick, which takes place in the year 2154, the rich live on a man-made space station and want for nothing. Meanwhile, the rest of population exists on a unrecognizable Earth, destroyed and nearly uninhabitable. Damon plays Max in the film, a man who takes on the task of delivering equality for all the worlds’ people after learning his cancer will kill him if he doesn’t seek a cure on the space station
Foster plays a robotically evil defense secretary on Elysium, the space station housing the few fortunate wealthy. Both Braga and Luna’s characters are inhabitants of the ruined Earth. Braga plays Max’s childhood sweetheart, while Luna plays Julio, a rebel who tries to help Max succeed on his mission.
