Elon Musk Slammed On His Own Platform For Posting A Fake Image Of Kamala Harris As A ‘Communist Dictator’

X owner Elon Musk was condemned on his own platform for posting an A.I.-generated image of Vice President Kamala Harris, which depicted her as a “communist dictator.”

On September 1, Harris went to X to post a meme that read, “[Former President] Donald Trump Vows To Be A Dictator On Day One.”

The post alluded to a December 2023 Fox News interview in which Trump vowed to be a “dictator” but “only on day one.”

One day later, Musk replied to the vice president’s post with an image of her wearing a red Communist party uniform and a hat emblazoned with a hammer and sickle.

“Kamala vows to be a communist dictator on day one,” the X CEO wrote in the caption. “Can you believe she wears that outfit!?”

The image, which seemed to violate X’s policy on manipulated content, resembled an A.I.-generated image posted by Trump in August during the Democratic National Convention. It visualized Harris addressing an audience under communist symbols.

Musk’s post soon received backlash from other users on his platform.

“Seriously,” the X user @MarcWendtCoach asked in an X post. “You have been talking about the perils of AI, and here you are perpetrating the propagation of this Bulls—? @elonmusk What happened to the importance of truth? God D— it this is some s— that is beneath a man of your intelligence.”

User @FrankieJay__ stated that Musk was “spreading propaganda and disinformation” in this post.

“Bro… label this as parody, otherwise you’re propelling misinformation,” another user @Ticklematter wrote. “Community notes do your thing. You can’t have it both ways.”

Musk has been wading into many political controversies lately.

In the wake of anti-immigration riots across the United Kingdom in August, Musk was accused of having actively pushed anti-immigrant sentiments on X.

The X owner made comments that “civil war is inevitable” in response to a post that blamed the demonstrations on the effects of “mass migration and open borders.”

Musk’s comments drew widespread criticism from government officials.

Even though Musk has frequently criticized mail-in voting as a possible source of election fraud, public records disclosed in late August show that he previously used mail voting, raising questions of hypocrisy.

California voting records show he cast mail-in ballots in both the 2016 presidential election and the 2018 midterms while living in Los Angeles, California. This information differs significantly from his recent public statements, including a January 2024 post on X where he said voting by mail was “insane.”
