Elon Musk Says The Oscars Are Too Politically Correct: ‘It No Longer Commands Respect’

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and X, has voiced his opinion that the Oscars are going downhill.

In a post to X on Sunday night, Musk wrote, “Winning an Oscar now just means you won the woke contest.”

He added in a subsequent post, “When an award is diluted, everyone knows, including those who received it, and it no longer commands respect.”

Although Musk did not explicitly outline the specific aspects of this year’s Oscar-nominated films that he deemed “woke,” such as Greta Gerwig‘s feminist blockbuster Barbie and Christopher Nolan‘s Oppenheimer, it is apparent that his resentment stems from criticisms of corporate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Musk has been consistently critical of such initiatives, which he perceives as a form of reverse racism, as he expressed in a previous statement made in January.

Musk also recently criticized Google over allegations that the company’s Gemini chatbot’s image generation exhibited elements of being “woke.” Musk went as far as to accuse Google of implementing “insane racist, anti-civilizational programming.”

The programming, as acknowledged by Google, is a direct result of their endeavors to address bias, enhance representation and ensure that their model’s output reflects the diversity of its global user base.

However, Musk has taken a critical stance and perpetuated the recurrent narrative that initiatives promoting social awareness – commonly referred to as “woke” diversity initiatives – are detrimental to Western culture and civilization.

After Google’s response, Musk expressed his belief that any company with the slogan “Don’t be evil” is bound to be evil. For a significant period, Google prominently featured this phrase in its corporate code of conduct. However, as part of its restructuring under Alphabet, this motto was replaced with “do the right thing” before eventually being abandoned in 2018.

Musk’s perspective on the awards show was not the only prominent one. Donald Trump also expressed his thoughts on the Oscars via the platform Truth Social, slamming Jimmy Kimmel‘s performance as host. Kimmel read Trump’s post on live TV, joking, “Isn’t it past your jail time!”

Under Musk, X has lost over 70% of its value in one year.
