Wilfred star Elijah Wood comments on pedophilia in an interview with The Sunday Times, which went viral almost immediately. Wood now wants to clarify what he really meant.
In the interview, Wood, 35, commented on the deceased U.K. television star Jeremy Savile’s sex abuse scandal. Savile has been accused of using his fame to solicit sex from many people, including minors. The former child star said how he was very fortunate to have his family be able to protect him as a child and how he believes there are still people like that in the industry.
“From my reading and research, I’ve been led down dark paths to realize that these things probably are still happening,” said Wood.
The interview went viral resulting in the Lord of the Rings star issuing a statement. “Let me be clear: This subject of child abuse is an important one that should be discussed and properly investigated,” Wood said. “But as I made absolutely clear to the writer, I have no firsthand experience or observation of the topic, so I cannot speak with any authority beyond articles I have read and films I have seen.”
He even took to Twitter to clarify his actions on Tuesday.
