Eddie Murphy is stepping back into the shoes of his iconic character, Axel Foley, for a new installment in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. The Netflix production marks Murphy’s return to the role after a three-decade hiatus.

The film, set to premiere on July 3, promises to blend nostalgia with contemporary themes. Murphy’s Foley, now a seasoned detective, finds himself drawn back to the glitzy streets of Beverly Hills when his estranged daughter Jane, portrayed by rising star Taylour Paige, becomes embroiled in a dangerous investigation. As a public defender, Jane’s pursuit of justice in a murder case leads her to uncover a web of corruption within the Beverly Hills Police Department, putting her life at risk.
At a star-studded premiere event held across from the actual Beverly Hills Police Department, Murphy posed for pictures with Affion Crockett and comedian Jay Pharoah, known for his spot-on impressions of the comedy legend.
The film boasts an impressive cast, with Kevin Bacon playing a menacing senior police officer, adding a layer of intrigue to the story. Joseph Gordon-Levitt joins the franchise as Foley’s new partner, injecting fresh energy into the dynamic that fans have come to love.
This latest chapter in the Beverly Hills Cop saga follows the original film’s massive success. Released in 1984, the first installment grossed over $300 million worldwide, spawning two sequels in 1987 and 1994. Now, after a 30-year gap, expectations are high for this revival.
