According to Ed Sheeran, Khalid was involved in a car accident last week. Sheeran told fans the news and covered for the singer’s supporting act before performing his own set as the headliner on his Mathematics Tour.

While onstage at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, Sheeran said that Khalid was recovering.

This gave fans the chance to listen to several added songs live off of Sheeran’s newest album, Subtract. He performed the set fully acoustic, including tracks like “Sycamore” and “No Strings.”

During the opening set, Sheeran quipped with the audience, saying that they would get to see him in two different outfits, a white T-shirt and a black T-shirt. “I’m really pulling out the stops tonight,” he joked.

“Usually when I start playing it’s like pitch black, and now I get to see everyone. It’s awesome,” Sheeran said of playing the opening set. He later told the crowd that he can feel the pressure when performing as the main act but playing the supporting act was fun.

Sheeran also took the time to think back about the beginning of his career, saying that he used to be the opening act when he was a teenager. “I used to have cards that I would give people: ‘Check me out on MySpace, MySpace.com/EdSheeran.'”
