He decided to take a break from the show in 2017 to focus on other parts of his life, including his musical career. He co-starred on the Broadway show Jersey Boys as Frankie Valli.

He returned to DWTS in 2022, which is when he won the mirrorball trophy in the Season 21 finale with dancer Charli D’Amelio

Since Ballas retired from the show, he has been focused on creating music with his wife. Jean is a singer-songwriter and well known for working with Beyoncé on the hit song “If I Were a Boy.”

The two have been together since 2012 when they exchanged numbers at an event. Four years later, Ballas proposed to Jean and they tied the knot a few months later in November 2016.
