Drew Peterson Found Guilty In Murder Of Kathleen Savio

Drew Peterson, 58, the former Illinois cop who has been on trial for killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio, was found guilty on Thursday in court, after a jury deliberated the case for two days.

Peterson, who will be sentenced in November, could face up to 60 years in prison, reports ABC News. Savio was found dead in her bathtub in 2004, and her death was ruled an accident at the time. But when Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, disappeared in 2007, authorities exhumed Savio's body to re-examine it, at which point the cause of death was changed to homicide.

"Today is the culmination of eight years, eight long years, and today we've gotten justice," said Savio's nephew, Michael Lisak, after the verdict was read. "Today Kathleen Savio — Kitty Savio — can finally rest in peace and the Savio family can finally move on."

Savio's family was also vocal about the search for Stacy Peterson. "Stacy, you are now next for justice," Nicholas Savio, Kathleen's brother, said outside the courthouse.

Peterson, who consistently denied involvement in both his third wife's death and his fourth wife's disappearance, has not faced any charges for the latter.

The jury paused in their deliberations briefly before issuing their verdict to pose a question to Judge Edward Burmila: "Just to be clear, judge, what does unanimous mean?" the jury asked in a note, to which Burmila responded, "The word unanimous indicates the agreement of all on the matter at hand." The verdict came in about an hour later.
