Donald Trump hinted he might step in and “save” Atlantic City’s Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino, which closed Tuesday, Sept. 16, after Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc. declared bankruptcy.
The Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino, which has been in serious decline for the past decade, is the fourth Atlantic City casino to shut down this year, and the Trump Taj Mahal Casino resort could be next.
Trump has taken to Twitter to distance himself from the failed casino, saying, “I have nothing to do with Atlantic City – sold years ago (great timing).”
In fact, Trump has been distancing himself from Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc., the company that owns the Trump Plaza and the Trump Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City, for years. According to the company’s most recent bankruptcy filing (their fourth), Trump owns 5% of Trump Entertainment stock. The mogul also recently filed a lawsuit asking that his former company remove the ‘Trump’ name from the failing casinos.
In between tweets about his potential bid for President in 2016, Trump ranted about the decline of Atlantic City, saying politicians ruined the once glamorous city with “airport, convention center, etc.”
Trump also mentioned that he could be convinced to “save” the Trump Plaza and Trump Taj Mahal, if he could buy it back at a much lower price, and goes on to claim that his presence is what made Atlantic City great.
