Donald Trump Denies Losing 2016 Iowa Caucuses That He Lost To Ted Cruz

On Monday, Donald Trump claimed that he had won two Iowa caucuses despite the fact that he lost to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in 2016.

While leaving the Hotel Fort Des Moines ahead of this year’s caucus, the former president shared his confidence with reporters.

“We’re going to have a great night, and it’s a fantastic place,” Trump said. “We’ve won it twice, as you know. Two elections. I think we’re going to have a tremendous night tonight. The people are fantastic, and I’ve never seen spirit like they have, countrywide. But in Iowa, I’ve never seen spirit like that.”

Trump was the 2020 Iowa caucus against former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, garnering 97% of the vote.

In 2016, however, Cruz took the lead with 27.6% of the vote, edging out Trump’s 24.3%. The former president congratulated the senator before taking to social media and circulating fraud allegations.

“Ted Cruz didn’t win Iowa, he illegally stole it,” Trump tweeted the day after the 2016 Iowa caucuses. The tweet was deleted and replaced by another.

“Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified,” he wrote.

The 2024 Iowa caucuses took place on Monday despite harsh weather conditions.

“It will not be canceled or postponed under any circumstances,” Trump announced ahead of the voting. “Don’t listen to any dishonest RHINOS [Republicans in name only] or Globalists that say otherwise! You should arrive by 6:30 p.m., as the caucus starts at 7:00 p.m. sharp, and you CANNOT be late!”

Trump won big on Monday with 51% of the votes, followed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) with 21.2%.

Facing four criminal cases in four different jurisdictions, Trump bragged last week that he’s been indicted “more than Al Capone,” the famed Prohibition-era gangster.
