Couple’s Goldendoodle, Cecil, Eats $4,000 In Cash – But Owners Are Able To ‘Recover’ Most Of It

On December 8, Clayton Law pulled $4,000 in cash out of his savings account in order to pay for a fence to be installed at his home in Pittsburgh.

He had taken out the money in $100 and $50 bills and had left the stack in a sealed envelope on the counter. Law’s intent was to put it in a safe place, but he was unable to do that before his 7-year-old goldendoodle Cecil, ate the stash.

After finding what remained of the money in shreds, Law called for his wife Carrie. She said she remembers him yelling, “Cecil ate $4,000!”

She ran into the room hoping that she had heard him wrong, but after seeing the pieces of paper everywhere, she knew that Cecil really had done the unthinkable.

Carrie claimed that Cecil had never done anything like this before and did not even take food from the countertops. She poked fun at the dog having expensive taste saying, “You could leave a steak on the table, and he wouldn’t touch it because he’s not food motivated, but apparently he is money motivated.”

Clayton said that since Cecil had never done anything like this before, they were more shocked than they were angry. The Laws then called their veterinarian to see if there was anything they needed to do for the dog. The doctor said he should be fine given his size.

After piecing back together what they could, the couple could only manage to revive a measly $1,500. When Carrie took the bills to the bank and explained it to the manager, he stated that they had seen something like this several other times, and they would take back any bills that they could save the serial numbers from.

Carrie and Clayton took to searching through Cecil’s vomit and droppings to find the remaining $2,500. They washed the scraps of currency off in a utility sink with dish soap. Luckily, the couple was able to laugh at the situation and posted pictures of their money “puzzles” and they acquired over 175,000 likes.

In the end, Carrie and Clayton were able to salvage an additional $1,800 from the dog poop, providing them a total of $3,550.
