Donald Trump Attends Bastille Day Parade In Paris, #BastilleDay Trending On Twitter

Bastille Day is July 14 in France, and marks the start of the French Revolution in 1789. The Bastille was a military fortress and political prison, but also a symbol of the government’s unfair dictatorial rule over the country. It’s storming marked a flashpoint in French history, and the king at the time was overtaken three years later.

BASTILLE DAY TWEETS

Donald Trump was in France visiting French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron. After commenting on the First Lady’s body, he attended a parade on the Champs-Elysees. “It was a great honor to represent the United States at the magnificent #BastilleDay parade. Congratulations President @EmmanuelMacron!” the president tweeted.

With Trump and Macron at the military parade, the French military band played a fun medley of Daft Punk tunes for the presidents.

Friends in Canada also wished France a Happy Bastille Day, using the country’s official Twitter account.

 

The cast of Broadway show Les Misérables also tweeted out a Happy #BastilleDay tweet, with a little emoji of a French flag.

 

Even the Eiffel Tower Twitter account got in on the action, and posted a Bastille Day tweet with a video of the tower in the sunlight.

Some celebrities tweeted their happy Bastille Day wishes as well. Actress Alisha Wainwright commemorated the day, as it’s celebrated right on the tails of her birthday. “Thank you for the #bday well wishes! I can’t wait for what the next year has in store and as always Happy #BastilleDay,” she said.

Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir posted a photo of himself on a boat in France, saying “Vive la France!”
