After Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States on Wednesday at noon, a special televised evening concert event was presented, Celebrating America. The annual inaugural balls are normally supposed to occur after the president is sworn into office. However, the Celebrating America concert served as a substitute for the inaugural balls after the events were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hosted by Tom Hanks, Celebrating America featured several musicians and celebrities who each performed a musical number in honor of the special occasion including Justin Timberlake, Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi. One particularly noteworthy celebrity who performed in honor of Biden becoming the new President of the United States was Demi Lovato.

Lovato first revealed that she was asked to perform during Celebrating America on January 13 in an Instagram post. “I’m SO honored to announce that I will be joining @joebiden & @kamalaharris for their special event, “Celebrating America” on January 20th at 8:30pm ET/PT,” she wrote. “I was left speechless when I was asked to perform! Lovato performed toward the end the special, singing a rendition of Bill Withers’ iconic song “Lovely Day.”

Lovato was presented in front of a panel of screens, where several people helped perform back up vocals during the musical number, including celebrities such as Lin-Manuel Miranda and others like  doctors and nurses. Biden was also shown to be watching Lovato’s performance along with his family in the White House. Biden was even seen holding his grandson in his arms during the musical number.
