Demi Lovato On Former Friend Miley Cyrus: “People Change”
Demi Lovato recently admitted that she is no longer friends with fellow Disney alum, Miley Cyrus, calling them “acquaintances.”
Demi Lovato Isn’t Friends With Miley Cyrus
On Monday, Lovato appeared on The TJ Show for Boston’s 103.3 AMP Radio, when a fan called in to ask about the status of her friendship with Cyrus. “Um…yeah…that, um…we’re – we’re like…acquaintances,” Lovato said, awkwardly.
Lovato added that their friendship deteriorated, not because of any drama, but because they simply grew apart. “It’s life, and people change. I don’t have anything in common with her anymore. I wish her the best,” the singer added.
After the interview hit the airwaves, sources confirmed that the two Disney stars didn’t go through a dramatic fallout. Instead, Lovato and Cyrus parted ways after Lovato got sober and made the decision to stay away from partying. Cyrus is famously open about her partying ways – particularly her love of marijuana.
“Miley is a wild card,” a source told E! News, adding, “Demi’s sobriety is very important to her.”
The source also revealed that Cyrus and Lovato are civil towards each other, but recently had an awkward run-in at a small gathering. “They were in the same room for only a few moments, and it was super-awkward, very girly high-school, pretending to ignore each other. They didn’t speak, they didn’t even make eye contact,” the source said.
Publicly, neither Cyrus nor Lovato have spoken ill of each other. In fact, in 2013, Lovato expressed nothing but love for Cyrus, telling reporters, “Miley has been one of my best friends growing up and so I’m happy for her.”
Lovato recently said similar things about her former BFF, Selena Gomez, when she appeared on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live in August and was asked why she and Gomez had unfollowed each other on Twitter. “I think it’s just one of those things where people change and people grow apart,” she told host Andy Cohen.
