David Copperfield Responds To Sexual Assault Claim With Instagram Post

David Copperfield is the latest male celebrity to be accused of sexual assault, and he has now responded to the allegation against him.

David Copperfield Sexual Assault Allegation News

Model Brittney Lewis has claimed the 61-year-old American magician drugged and raped her in 1988 when she was 17 years old.

Lewis said she met Copperfield — the world’s highest-paid magician — at a modeling competition in Japan, which he helped judge. She claimed Copperfield then invited her to see him perform in California, where they stayed in adjacent hotel rooms.

Following his show, the magician allegedly took Lewis to a bar and poured something into her drink. Lewis said she then blacked out and vaguely remembered being placed in a cab before she came to in her hotel room — with Copperfield on top of her.

“I remember my clothes being taken off,” she told the Wrap. “He was kissing my face and then I remember him starting to go down on my body with his face, and then, as soon as he started going down, I just completely blacked out.”

Lewis stated Copperfield came into her room the next day and assured her “nothing happened because I was underage” and that he added “I didn’t enter you.”

Copperfield didn’t explicitly respond to Lewis’ allegation, although he did post a statement about the #MeToo movement that has swept several industries and caused several famous men to be fired due to sexual misconduct.

The magician said he supported the movement, which has been going on for about three months, but added that everyone should be cautious and consider the possibility that some women may be fabricating their stories for unspecified reasons.

“I’ve lived with years of news reports about me being accused of fabricated, heinous acts, with few telling the story of the accuser getting arrested, and my innocence,” he wrote.

“Always listen, and consider everything carefully, but please, for everyone’s sake, don’t rush to judgement.”

Copperfield alluded to a case from 2007 in which a different woman falsely accused him of assault and was subsequently charged and arrested by the FBI. The woman, Lacey Carroll, was charged in 2010.

Copperfield allegedly earned $61.5 million last year.

According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, a large number of sexual assault have gone unreported, and most research suggests false accusations are extremely rare.
