David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, both of whom are perhaps best known for helming HBO’s Game of Thrones, will soon work with each other again on a new project: a brand-new Star Wars trilogy.

DAVID BENIOFF & D.B. WEISS TO HELM NEW STAR WARS TRILOGY

Lucasfilm made the announcement on February 6, 2018. The studio’s president, Kathleen Kennedy, has expressed her excitement for the upcoming collaboration:

“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

Benioff and Weiss are likewise enthusiastic over getting to contribute to the multimedia empire that is the Star Wars brand, jointly saying how they’re “honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”

No details concerning this trilogy’s plot or casting have been announced at this time, although it will be a separate saga from the numbered episodes as well as Rian Johnson’s recently announced trilogy. In the meantime, the next film in the venerable franchise, Solo: A Star Wars Story, will fly into theaters on May 25.
