Danny Abeckaser, who stars alongside Michael Shannon, Ray Liotta and Winona Ryder in The Iceman, knew that acting opposite the film’s top-tier talent meant he would have to up his game. “I really understood that I needed to bring my A game,” he told Uinterview. “I mean I tried not to think about them as being these big stars you know and incredible actors.” Danny Abeckaser, who stars alongside Michael Shannon, Ray Liotta and Winona Ryder in The Iceman, sat down recently with Uinterview for an exclusive interview. The actor was effusively complimentary of the top-tier talent he worked with, and gave his honest opinion of the real-life‘Iceman’

“I really understood that I needed to bring my A game,” he told Uinterview. “I mean I tried not to think about them as being these big stars you know and incredible actors.” As for Shannon, who plays ‘The Iceman’ Richard Kuklinski, Abeckaser said, “I didn’t realize how great he was and just working with him, he just gives you so much. He just elevates your performance.”

For Abeckaser, the biggest challenge in filming The Iceman wasn’t a case of being star struck; it was a directing decision. During one of the closing scenes, Abeckaser’s character, Dino, is at a hospital. The director changed his mind at the last minute to do a single shot rather than shoot it from three different points of view. With multiple shots, Abeckaser explained, “If you mess up, you can restart, you know the way they edit it, but in one shot it’s just, that was really hard for me.”

And what did Abeckaser think of the real-life hitman Kuklinski? “Wow, he was a psychopath… just watching the documentaries and watching his mannerisms and the way he talked, he doesn’t seem like anyone I would want to know to be honest.”
