Abby Lee Miller
Abby Lee Miller, the Dance Moms star, pleaded guilty to bankruptcy fraud at a Pittsburgh court Monday, and could face more than two years in prison.
Miller pleaded guilty to both bankruptcy fraud and failing to report thousands of dollars from Australia that she had brought into the United States. Miller had been accused of hiding $775,000 in earnings from her reality show Dance Moms, its spinoff Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition in addition to other projects when filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Furthermore, Miller was charged with enlisting friends to bring $120,000 of money from Australia into the U.S. back in August 2014.
Miller’s lawyer, Robert Ridge, has said that the reality TV star realizes the gravity of her charges, and is thankful for the support she has received.
“Throughout this case, Ms. Miller has taken both the allegations and the proceedings very seriously,” Ridge told People in a statement. “This has been a challenging time for Ms. Miller. She appreciates the words of encouragement and support from around the world.”
Miller is facing 24-30 months in prison during her sentencing hearing scheduled for Oct. 11. Ridge believes that since Miller’s creditors did not suffer losses, her sentencing will be far less severe. He suspects that she will get probation, or up to only six months in prison.
