Dame Helen Mirren Says She’s Done With Nude Scenes At 70

Dame Helen Mirren has decided to retire from doing nude scenes at age 70.

Throughout her busy and storied career, Mirren unintentionally became a sex symbol, known in part for her propensity to strip down for her film roles. According to Mirren, while she never set out to do so many nude scenes, she didn’t see the point in avoiding them either.

“I never wanted to do that, but I thought, ‘Does it really matter?’ It seemed to be not a thing to get your knickers in a twist over,” Mirren told Alan Cumming on his show Remember That Time. “I started doing nude scenes from the first moment I started doing movies. It was the era.”

Of the attention her body has received, including a Saturday Night Live skit, Mirren played oblivious. “I didn’t know my boobs were legendary,” Mirren deadpanned. “There are much more legendary boobs than mine.”

The last time Mirren bared her chest on camera was back in 2003 for Calendar Girls. And according to the Oscar-winning actress, that was the last time.

“That’s the good thing about getting older. You don’t have to do that sort of thing anymore,” she told Cumming. “My pleasure pillows are purely for my husband [Taylor Hackford].”
