Catherine Coulson, ‘Twin Peaks’ Log Lady, Dies At 71

Catherine E. Coulson, known for playing the Log Lady in the cult TV series Twin Peaks, died Monday morning from cancer. She was 71.

Catherine Coulson died from cancer Monday morning at her home in Ashland, Ore. Before her death, she was set to reprise her iconic Twin Peaks role in Showtime’s upcoming revival, according to Variety.

“We are all deeply sad, she meant so much to so many,” her agent, Mary Dangerfield, said on her death.

Coulson has worked with creator David Lynch outside of Twin Peaks as an assistant director in films like his debut feature Eraserhead. She also reprised her role as the Log Lady in the prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. Coulson’s other acting credits included guest spots on shows like Portlandia and Psych.

In a statement, David Lynch wrote:

Today I lost one of my dearest friends, Catherine Coulson. Catherine was solid gold. She was always there for her friends — she was filled with love for all people — for her family — for her work.  She was a tireless worker. She had a great sense of humor — she loved to laugh and make people laugh. She was a spiritual person — a longtime TM meditator. She was the Log Lady.

Some of Twin Peaks’ co-stars also expressed their condolences on Twitter. Co-star Madchen Amick tweeted, “This is a sad day in the land of #TwinPeaks (cont’d) We love u #CatherineCoulson #LogLady4ever”

Producer Harley Peyton also tweeted about her passing with this: “It’s hard to think of anyone who better exemplified the heart and the soul of #TwinPeaks than Catherine Coulson. RIP.”

Coulson was married to her Twin Peaks co-star Jack Nance, which ended in a divorce after nine years of marriage. She was currently married to Marc Sirinisky, with whom she had a daughter, Zoey.
