Dakota Fanning will play a newlywed opposite Downton Abbey actor Theo James in the indie drama Franny that also stars Golden Globe-winner Richard Gere.
Franny was created by up-and-coming screenwriter Andrew Renzi during the 2013 Sundance Screenwriters lab. The film, which will also be directed by Renzi, follows an aging and lonely "hedonist philanthropist" (Gere) as he thrusts himself into the lives of a young married couple – Olivia and Luke – in an attempt to live vicariously through them, reported Deadline.
Renzi’s film is scheduled to being shooting in Philadelphia on Oct. 21.
Since making the jump from child actress to respected young adult actress, starting with 2009’s Twilight Saga: New Moon, Fanning has landed roles in a number of indie dramas, including The Runaways with Kristen Stewart. She was last seen in 2013 Toronto Film Festival showing The Last of Robin, which costarred Kevin Kline and Susan Sarandon. Fanning’s upcoming releases are the environmentally-themed Night Moves with Jesse Eisenberg and Peter Sarsgaard in Very Good Girls.
James is likely best known for his stint on Downton Abbey as Kemal Pamuk, and made his film debut in Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. This past year, James landed the leading role in CBS crime drama Golden Boy and was cast in the adaptation of Veronica Roth’s dystopian young adult novel Divergent.
Gere’s last feature was the critically acclaimed Arbitrage, for which he received an Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role nomination.
