West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin Says He ‘Loves His Country Too Much To Vote For Donald Trump’

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia), who represents one of the reddest states, said he would not be voting for former President Donald Trump.

Although Manchin, a conservative Democrat, has opened up about his concerns about his party candidates and leadership, he said he loves this “country too much to vote for Donald Trump.”

When asked about his reservations about President Joe Biden on Face The Nation, he directly called out Trump.

“Constructive criticism,” he said. “Let me make it very clear: I love my country too much to vote for Donald Trump. I love my country too much, and I think [it] would be very detrimental to my country.”

By Super Tuesday, when the greatest number of primary elections and caucuses is held across the country, Manchin claimed he’d better understand the 2024 presidential race.

Instead of just examining the Democratic and Republican parties, Manchin is looking at third-party candidates who have the opportunity to run. He has publicly toyed with the idea of running for president as the candidate of the No Labels group.

“I think we’ll find out; you’ll just have to find out what’s going on,” he said, “If there’s a movement … for third party, I think is what you’re asking about. Can that movement make a difference?”

He then added, “I’m not going to be a spoiler; I never have been and never will be. But people want options, or they want change. So you got to see what comes, and by then, I think things will hopefully sort itself out.”

Manchin was later asked directly whether he would make a bid for the White House, but he said he would not rule out the possibility.

“I’m gonna do everything I can to save my country, and I’ll do whatever it takes. I’ll help whoever, and I’ll support whoever that I think can best help this country,” Manchin said. “Come back to this common sense, sensible middle, which is center-left, center-right, working together with a majority. You can’t govern from extremes.”
