Nicki Minaj Responds To Controversial Covid-19 Tweet Two Years Later

Over two years ago, rapper Nicki Minaj faced backlash for spreading misinformation about the Covid-19 vaccine through a viral tweet.

Although she was invited to the 2021 Met Gala, Minaj refused to attend because she did not want to comply with the vaccination restrictions.

She said in another tweet, “If I get vaccinated, it won’t be for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research.”

She then reminded everyone to wear the appropriate mask. “Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face,” she added. “Not that loose one.”

Later that same day, she posted another tweet explaining that she did not want to get the vaccine because of the side effects.

“My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent,” she tweeted. “His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with your decision, not bullied.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former chief medical advisor to the president, responded immediately to Minaj’s accusations, saying that there was no scientific basis to back her claims that what happened to her cousin’s friend was related to the vaccine.

Two years later, Minaj has responded to the backlash.

“I’m one of those people who doesn’t go with a crowd,” Minaj told Vogue. “I like to make my own assessment of everything without help from everyone.”

She then says that people get angry when she talks about politics.

“I’m sorry, but I am not going to be told who I should get on social media and campaign for,” she said. “There’s a lot we don’t know that’s going on in the government, and I don’t think it changes whether you lean to the left or right.”
