New House Speaker Mike Johnson Called America ‘Dark,’ ‘Depraved’ & ‘Irredeemable’ Last Month On Christian Show

A video of new House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) from last month surfaced and showed Johnson in a prayer call alongside far-right Pastor Jim Garlow from the World Prayer Network.

The call focused on Johnson’s belief that America’s wickedness was an invitation for God’s wrath, and called the country “so dark and depraved that it almost seems irredeemable at this point.”

Johnson went into great detail about why America is “in a time of judgment” as “the faith in our institutions is its lowest it’s ever been in the history of our nation.”

As evidence, he listed the increase in teens that specify as gay or nonbinary, and youth’s decline of the church.

Johnson provided his followers a glimmer of hope when he ended that the faithful few, known as the “remnant,” would be significant enough to make a difference.

He expressed optimism that God will provide guidance and support, as he believes that America’s history is intertwined with divine purpose.

Johnson emphasized the necessity of a nationwide revival and recognized it as a crucial step to spiritual renewal and restoration.

Johnson, 51, is a professed Baptist.

Last December, Johnson made a WPN appearance with Garlow, and declared he’d been “burdened” by the need for America to “recognize there’s so much to repent for.”

The future speaker elaborated, “We’re violating His commands. We’re inventing new ways to do evil. We have to ask ourselves: How long can His mercy and His grace be held back?”

A Christian nationalist based out of San Diego, Garlow has been viewed as an “apostle” by the New Apostolic Reformation – a strain of Christianity that believes gifts of the spirit (such as prophecy) are alive in our time, not biblical bygones.

NAR’s obsession with earthly power differentiates it from other strings of evangelical Christianity, and its leaders are expected to embrace “dominionism” – the concept that Christians should rise and rule over the nations and bring the globe to biblical alignment – in preparation for the return of Jesus.

Both Johnson and Garlow have been unabashed supporters of Donald Trump and helped try to overturn the 2020 election.

In the December that followed the 2020 election, Garlow was the lead author of an open letter to Trump that declared, “God’s ordained assignment remains unfinished” because “God’s will is for you to serve for a second term.”

In the post-election period, Garlow began the series “Prayer Calls for Election Integrity,” which sought the power of divine intervention to keep Trump in office.

Over time, these calls morphed into a general-purpose Christian nationalist broadcast – WPN.

In a recently resurfaced audio clip from 2008, Johnson blamed the fall of the Roman Empire on homosexuality.
