Britney Spears‘ younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, was named trustee of the 38-year-old singer’s fortune on Aug. 26, putting her in charge of the SJB Revocable Trust set up in 2004 to secure Britney Spears and her children’s finances.
Jamie Lynn Spears was made trustee back in 2018. Jamie Spears, Britney Spears’ father, signed off on the appointment, and is trying to create blocked accounts that will contain her assets. Upon the singer’s death, her sister will receive the trust and make sure it goes towards Britney Spears’ two children, 14-year-old Sean Federline and 13-year-old Jayden James Federline.
This news comes in the midst of the “#FreeBritney” movement on social media over Britney Spears’ legal conservatorship. Many fans believe that the pop star is currently stuck and posting coded calls for help to her social media accounts, such as when she posted a video pacing back and forth in a yellow top, soon after a fan told her to “wear a yellow shirt in your next video if you need help.”
Britney Spears’ lawyer stated in the past that the singer is “strongly opposed” to her father remaining her court-appointed conservator and that she prefers Jodi Montgomery, now the acting conservator, to remain her conservator. Despite Spears’ requests, the court extended the letters of conservatorship through Feb. 1, 2021. Spears’ lawyer has until Sept. 18 to file a petition to try and put a stop to it.
