The hashtag “#FreeBritney” has been trending after pop-star Britney Spears posted a concerning video on Instagram. Fans are calling to free Spears from conservatorship, which she has been under since 2008 after a highly publicized meltdown.

Over the weekend, Spears posted a video of herself walking around and smiling at the camera that was filming her. She captioned the video, “HOLY HOLY CRAP 😍 !!!!!! My florist surprised me today by making the flower arrangement all different colors 💐💐💐💐  ….. I was so excited I threw on my favorite yellow shirt and just had to SHARE 🌸🌸🌸⭐️⭐️⭐️ !!!!”

Fans took to Twitter in an attempt to help the singer. One user wrote, “I see the people talking about how not-real creatures, only animated characters had been quarantined for many years. Why don’t we talk about a real and live human being who has been quarantined since 2008 and has no rights as a human and people keep judging her? #FreeBritney.”

Another added, “I’m just now finding out how bad Britney Spears situation is I can’t believe she can’t eat, go on the internet, be in the same room as someone else, see her kids, without permission. This acceptable for a 38 year old? Just bc she’s dealt with mental illness? #FREEBRITNEY.”

Spears’ father Jamie Spears acted as her conservator until 2019, when he had to step aside for health issues. The current conservator is Jodi Montgomery, who is one of Spears’ managers.
