Sag Harbor, New York police officer Michael Arkinson, who arrested singer Justin Timberlake for DWI in the Hamptons last year, has been named “Officer of the Year.”

Earlier this month, Arkinson received the honor of Sag Harbor Village Police Department’s “Officer of the Year.” The honor was given out at a ceremony hosted by the Southampton Kiwanis Club.

“Although Officer Arkinson was newly hired last year, he has made an immediate impact within the department and the community,” Chief Rob Drake declared during the ceremony.

On the night of June 17, 2024, the police officer arrested Timberlake for driving while intoxicated after he left a restaurant in Sag Harbor on Long Island, New York.

The singer told law enforcement that he “only had one martini and was just following [his] friends back home, but Arkinson noted that he was drunk.

The officer stated that the singer showed various indicators of intoxication, such as red, glassy eyes, alcohol on his breath, as well as slurred speech and unsteady movement. The report also notes that Timberlake refused to take a chemical test for impairment.

In September 2024, prosecutors in Suffolk County, New York, agreed to drop the DWI charge against Timberlake, after the singer had pled not guilty to it through a virtual court a month earlier. His plea deal was accepted. He was told to pay a $500 fine and complete 25 hours of community service by this September.
